17wings.net is run by Chantelle.
When I created this site in 2002, I wanted its name to have something of an aerial feel. Thus, wings! When listed, I also wanted it to be at the beginning. "W" failed me miserably. Almost everything > w. # > a. 17 > a. To fix the problem, I attached my age, beautifully illustrated in "Arabic" characters, to an aerial word of Scandinavian origins. 17wings was born. ♥
Objective
The point of 17wings.net is to help people improve their non-commercial sites via reviews. I give designers in-depth reviews saturated with well-intentioned criticism. In turn, I learn a few things about web design and improve my critiquing skills.
I’m not here to delight in mean-spirited bashing. Even though I try to keep my reviews from being devastatingly boring, I don’t force humor into them by name-calling or by comparing things to poo. 17wings.net’s motto is: sugar, spice, and everything nice… Even when “spice” is considered, curses and poo don’t have a place.
Insincere flattery is also without a place. Too much sugar will rot your teeth: lying isn’t “nice,” and critiques without criticism aren’t helpful—remember: I’m here to find faults, not to praise.
Scheme
I analyze both layout and content. I review design style, code syntax and style, content quantity and quality, and writing syntax and style.
Ranking System
- 0.0 F – Lots to improve
- 1.0 D – Passing, definitely not a failure, (but) lots of room for growth
- 2.0 C – Good, everything looks nice and is sensibly arranged, some bits could use a little something-something
- 3.0 B – Very good
- 4.0 A – Great, almost OMG-amazing
- 5.0 A* – Brilliant site, just incredible
Rules & Guidelines
If you submit your site to be reviewed, you acknowledge the following:
- I have the option to not review your site—unless you have racist rants and porn as content, you shouldn’t worry.
- Even though I am not an expert and may make a mistake in your review, you desire my opinion.
- It may take me a few days to tell you that your site has been added to the queue. (Please wait 72 hours for a confirmation).
- There is a queue. This is the catch: when it’s full, it’s full. Don’t submit. I’m a busy girl. I don’t want a large to-do list looming over me, and I don’t want to keep people waiting for months.
- If the queue is full and submissions are closed, come back later. :D
- The ranking system is highly subjective and not intended to hurt your feelings. Getting a 0.1 is okay. ?

My Machine
I view websites on a laptop equipped with Windows Vista. My screen resolution is 1280×800; my connection is fast.
